Diane Petersen Shah Obituary

Diane Marie Petersen Shah, born in Glendale, California, on June 28, 1944, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Diane lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, calling many places home throughout her journey, including cities across Northern and Southern California, Oregon, Alabama, Puerto Rico, Ireland, Texas, Virginia, and Washington state. She embraced every moment and had a deep appreciation for the beauty of the world, traveling to 21 countries during her lifetime and immersing herself in the rich experiences and cultures she encountered along the way.

In her youth, she cherished her beloved horse, Nancy, and graduated from Chaffey High School in Ontario, California. Diane later pursued studies in Interior Decorating at a community college in Northern California, showcasing her artistic talent and impeccable sense of style. She had a remarkable eye for fashion and interior design, creating beautiful spaces and carrying herself with grace and elegance.

Diane loved life deeply and found joy in connecting with others. A warm and outgoing person, she had a special gift for making friends wherever she went. Whether in an elevator, airplane, restaurant, or even during everyday errands, she struck up conversations with ease, often forming lasting connections. Her warmth and charm made her a friend to many.

Diane had a deep love for animals, especially her cherished pets Jasmine, Kira, and Chloe, who brought her immense joy. Above all, she was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her favorite Bible verse, John 3:16, was a source of comfort and inspiration: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

She is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Ben (Bharat) Shah; her daughter Shawna Shah; her stepson Ben Jr. Shah (wife Bernie, son Alec Shah and his wife Victoria); her sister Sandra Petersen (husband Vince and their children Gregory, Jonathan, and Angela); and her beloved grandchildren, Kayla Shapero (partner Brooklyn McVay) and Corbin Shapero (wife Christine Corilla-Shapero, son Caidin Shapero). Diane also leaves behind many extended family members, including sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom were dear to her and whose lives she touched with her love and kindness.

A visitation and viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM in the Chapel at Riverview Abbey Funeral Home, located at 319 S Taylors Ferry Rd, Portland, Oregon, 97219.
