Dennis Nu`uanu Santos, age 70, grandpa to Tobin Nu`uanu and Lana Elise, passed peacefully at home on December 15, 2019. Dennis, of Portland, Oregon, was born on O`ahu Hawai`i on May 18, 1949. He attended seminary school on Oahu, Corpus Christi Academy, James Campbell High School, Marquette University, and the United States Naval Academy.
He proudly served 22 years in the Navy, from 1968-1990, achieving rank E9, Command Master Chief Petty Officer. He then worked for the Oregon Department of Transportation before retiring and moving to Portland in 2013.
Dennis was a gentle, kind-hearted man who put the love of his family above everything else. He enjoyed golfing, making Hawaiian spaghetti for his grandchildren, family reunions, taking the casino’s money, attending Hillsboro Hops games, and watching his Atlanta Braves.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Santos and Hattie Leone Nu`uanu Santos of Ewa Beach, O`ahu, his sisters, Lorraine Santos Lau of Long Beach, California, Virgin "Gina" Santos Headrick of Las Vegas, Nevada, and brother Richard Nu`uanu Santos of Grand Island, Florida.
Dennis was married to Connie Santos of Appleton, WI from 1973 till 1999. He is survived by their son, Scott Nu`uanu Santos, DDS, daughter-in-law Kimberly, grandchildren Tobin and Lana, of Gearhart, OR, as well as his loving companion of many years, Sue Hutchison. He also leaves behind sisters, Oleander "Olly" Santos Csisko of Sanford, Florida, and Glory "Lani" (Roxane) of Ewa Beach, Oahu; brothers, Myles "Bambi" of Waikapu, Maui, Gregory (Charmaine) of Lihu`e, Kaua`i, Stephen (Nathalie) of Hilo, Hawai`i, Fulton (Jenny) of Hillsboro, Oregon, and sister-in-law Karen Hendrix Santos (Richard) of Grand Island, Florida, along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
A Memorial will be scheduled at the Hawaiian State Veterans Cemetery in the summer of 2020 where he will be reunited with his parents, brother and many other family members.
