LORNA MAE DAHL
August 2, 1946 to October 2, 2018
Lorna Mae Dahl has been called to Heaven. She was born in Portland, Oregon the daughter of Robert and Rose Garrett. She grew up in North Portland and attended St. Cecelia’s grade school and North Catholic High School, class of 1964. She went on to college attending Portland State University and Oregon State University. After college she moved to Bend, Oregon and started a lighting fixture business. Later she moved back to Portland and worked for US National Bank, Oregon State Rehab, Oregon State Liquor Commission, and CIT Equipment Financing. She finally settled in at Mason, Bruce, and Girard where she spent 17 years working as an administrative assistant in forest management. After retiring in 2008, she spent her time in her Sherwood home and in her Tolovana Park beach house. Winters were always spent in Lake Havasu city, Arizona.
Lorna always liked a party. She chose to get married in 1980 on the Fourth of July in Las Vegas, Nevada. Easy to remember the anniversary date, and there is always a party somewhere.
Lorna has a very special spirit. It is always present every day. You could not be around her without feeling the energy that she has. Her radiant personality is awesome. Pictures of her will make you smile. You will never feel sad when you see her pretty angel face. Lorna never seems to age, she always looks so young and healthy. If you asked her about this, she would just say, “Wow! Where did all the time go? Oh well, we won’t worry about that now, it’s time to plan our next adventure!”
Lorna is very gifted. She is a master knitter. She is a wonderful piano and violin player. She played violin with a Portland string orchestra and later played piano and violin in the Cedar Creek Gang, a local band performing in Sherwood. Perhaps her greatest talent is that she is an excellent mother and grandmother.
It is impossible to tell Lorna’s life story in a few short words. So here are additional talents she has. As you read, let your imagination picture Lorna doing the following: snow skier, roller skater, ice skater, bicyclist, dirt bike rider, hiker, bird watcher, sail boater, mountain climber, rock hound, baker, river rafter, off road 4 wheeler, baton twirler, bowler, volley ball player, bible school teacher, typist, phone operator, licensed hair dresser, NRA member, cook, star gazer, hot spring finder, bible reader, road tripper, explorer, beach comber, flower gardener, and best of all, a good lover.
Lorna is survived by her husband John R. Dahl and her two sons, Larry P. Caleen and Greg Caleen. Her five grandchildren, Scott, Matt, Garrett, Sydney, and Owen. Her brothers Patrick and Jerry Garrett. Her sisters Janet Sciolaro and Kathy Weismandel. And her first husband Lawrence A. Caleen, father of Larry and Greg.
Lorna never gave up on anything she tried. She fought for life to the very end. She loves Lord Jesus and will be in His presence until we all join her there. She is truly the wayfaring stranger, just going over Jordan, just going back home. She will be a bright shining jewel in Heaven singing salvation’s story in concert with God’s Holy Band.
We have reached the time, dear reader, for closing the book and letting Lorna go to sleep. Before I go, I want to say one more time that you, Lorna, are the sunshine of my life and I love you so. Just remember darling that we are not saying goodbye, only, see you later sweetheart!
