JANET BLODGETT

December 26, 1936 - July 4, 2017

Janet Blodgett passed away on July 4th, 2017 in Portland, Oregon at the age of 80.

Born December 26, 1936 in Salem, Oregon to Otto & Mildred Kleen, Janet raised her family in Jefferson, Oregon after graduating from High School in Salem. In her early years, she worked as a telephone operator before settling in as a homemaker when her children were born. In 1977, she became a front desk/reservation clerk at the Greenwood Inn followed by a 15-year career with Timberline Software providing administrative support and customer service before retiring in 2002.

On September 2, 1977, she married Kevin Blodgett and began four decades of love, companionship, and hobbies including camping, bowling, golfing, and Broadway theater. The newspaper was part of her daily routine, enjoying the comics, jumble, teleword, and crossword puzzles. Janet was a huge Blazers fan and brought van loads of kids from Jefferson to watch the games in the 70's and enjoyed season tickets for many years with Kevin. In January of 2000 Janet & Kevin attended Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta, Georgia and watched the St Louis Rams defeat the Tennessee Titans.

Kevin and Janet were fortunate to travel internationally enjoying cruises to Mexico, Alaska, the Caribbean, and Jamaica. Other travel destinations included China where Janet visited the Great Wall, New Orleans, and Hawaii where Janet daringly zip-lined over waterfalls. Janet had a lifelong admiration for Elvis, saw him in person with her children, and recently journeyed to Graceland for the grand tour.

Janet had a great affection for all animals and a deep appreciation for beautiful flowers. She nurtured many cats in her life and found their daily companionship delightful. Her yard was always a sanctuary for birds, squirrels, and any other wildlife she could entice. It was not uncommon for Janet to sprinkle birdseed outside her favorite pub, Scotty's, so she could enjoy watching the birds while visiting with friends. She will always be remembered for her cheerful smile, playful spirit, classic sauerkraut, and latest manicure.

Janet is survived by her husband, Kevin of Aloha, Oregon, sister, Barbara of Baker, Oregon, brother, Butch of Surprise, Arizona, daughter Kathi & Dennis of Lincoln City, Oregon, son Rob & Michelle of Salem, Oregon, son Steve of Keiser, Oregon, grandchildren Denessa & Scott, Kristine, Alicia, Jackie, Cassie, and great grandchildren Paige, Jaxton, & Bronson.
