DOROTHEA MAY CHASTAIN

Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle Taylor and Gladys McFarland, her sister Nancy Strong and brother Jimmy McFarland. She was also preceded in death by husbands Charles Hall Stewart, Jerry Allen Hudson I, Edward Lee Chastain and life partner Harry Hamilton.
She is survived by her sisters Betty Ann Locke and Mary Jean Howland and brother William McFarland.
She is also survived by her children Kathryn Marie (Pete) Randall, Mary Rainey (Gary) Raetz, Bonnie Anne (Bill) Pinard, Jerry Allen (Shelli) Hudson II and Reba Jean (Ken) Himes. Her grandchildren are Elizabeth Georgene Randall and Robert Sharp Randall, Geoffrey Michel Raetz and Rebekah Mary (Raetz) Osowick, Nathan Allen Pinard, Jerry Allen Hudson III and Katie Elizabeth Hudson, Mychal Kurtis Amel (Himes), Dustin Wayne (Elise) and Nickolas Taylor (Beth) Himes. Her great-grandchildren are Charlotte Ila Randall Schwab, Hannah Elizabeth, Alexandria Autumn and Bailey Michael Raetz, William Michael and Sarah Anne Osowick, Jerry Thomas (JT) and Raegan Mae Hudson, and two Himes babies that will join the family in January. She is survived by two step-grandchildren Carolyn Scott Gilbert and Tricia Scott.
She did a lot of things in her life but she was, first and foremost a professional dressmaker and teacher of doll making and china painting. She loved beautiful things and Christmas (probably because of all the beautiful things!). She had faith in God and looked forward to being part of the place He prepared for her in heaven. May she rest in peace and happiness!
A memorial service is being held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception at the home of Mary and Gary Raetz, 14175 NW Cornell Road, Portland OR 97229.
Remembrances may be sent to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church designated for Quilting for Kids. Dorothea was a founding member of this ministry and participated until she was no longer able to sew. She had a great heart for these children who's mothers are victims of abuse and are living in a women's and children's shelter.
