Amy Burks Obituary

AMY LEE BURKS

1936 - 2019

Amy Lee Burks passed away on February 6, 2019 at the age of 82. She was born to Lee Roy and Emerald Butts in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She spent most of her early and teen years living in Los Angeles, where she met her husband of 63 years, Harold Burks. Amy's beauty, kindness, honesty and sense of style caught Harold's eye right away. Together, they built a life in San Jose, California.

San Jose brought the birth of her three daughters. Amy was surrounded by her husband Harold and her daughters Lisa Burks, Stephanie Burks and Stacia Nelson, during her final days. Complications from Stage 4 Kidney Disease weakened her body until she rejoined her parents and her older sisters Martha and Janice in Heaven.

In 1984, Amy and Harold moved to Phoenix, Oregon. Amy has four amazing grandchildren and one fabulous great grandchild. Amy was lovingly called Grammy by Sara, Shelby, Luke, Braden and Collin. They each have cherished memories of their time with Grammy. Around 2004, Amy and Hal moved to Beaverton, Oregon to be closer to family.

Amy had many gifts and talents. Aside from helping her husband Harold run their masonry business, she had a tremendous sense of style. Amy could have easily become an interior designer and often lent her sense of style and decorating to her family and friends. She could transform the ordinary into something quite beautiful. A walk in her yard would bring a smile to all who experienced it.

Amy also had an extra special gift with cooking and even attended West Valley College to study food services and catered some private events. Her family will always remember their favorite dishes and traditional meals that were loved by all.

Everyone who knew Amy knew they were loved and cherished. She will be greatly missed, but always remembered.
