Bill Stewart Obituary

William Edwin "Bill" Stewart, 88, a resident of the Forest Grove community died Saturday afternoon, April 3, 2010 at the Marquis Care of Forest Grove.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Banks Community Methodist Church on Depot Street in Banks. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the Celebration of Life to be held at the church fellowship room.

Bill was born on March 30, 1922 in Moundville, Missouri. He was one of six children born to Ray and Alta (Edwards) Stewart. He was raised and attended school in Mt Vernon, Missouri . Bill started working as a young teenager and "followed the crops" throughout the Midwest during the depression.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy M Aleshine in 1940. Following their marriage they made their home in Stotts City, Missouri. In 1944 Bill was enlisted into the US Army and served his country until 1945 when he was honorably discharged. In the late 40's they moved to Manning, OR. They divorced in 1970. On March 30, 1972 Bill married Sue

Sweere and they made their home in the in the Forest Grove/Banks area.

Bill was an entrepreneur, he was most notable as being a car salesman for Doghtery Ford in Forest Grove, he also had owned several service stations, two in Manning, two logging companies, Mead and Stewart logging and Bill and Don Stewart Logging. Bill had also help build the Manning Market with W.Lunzman and Erv Mead.

Among his interest he enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, He was an active gardener and loved Pinochle. Bill also was a great storyteller and enjoyed time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sons; William "Billie" and Ralph Stewart and two siblings; Margarite and Jack Stewart.

Survivors include his loving wife; Sue Stewart of the family home. Three children and their spouses; Mac and Jeanie Stewart of Vernonia, Bart and Norma Stewart of Banks, OR, Ardele and Mike Obrist of Portland, OR, four stepchildren and their spouses; Ron and Barbara Sweere of Forest Grove, OR, Claire Coombs of Boise, ID, Ramona Ginn of Brownsville, OR, Steven and Barbi Sweere of LaPine, OR, three siblings, 19 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
